I'm Losing My Job (Maybe)
Jun. 10th, 2022 07:33 pmWell, the official announcement is out, so I guess I can talk about it on the internet:
My branch is closing in September. Permanently.
I suppose I should have seen it coming. After COVID and the flood that practically wrecked the basement last year, we were taking on some heavy maintenance costs. They never did clean out the Records Room. They never did fix the elevator.
This is not a huge crisis. As most of you know, I am not the main wage earner in my household. Besides, the bank's regional manager personally assured me that I'd be transferred to another branch in Brooklyn.
(Let's see how that goes.)
Still... the end of an era. I was there when the branch opened 14 years ago, and now I'll be there to close it down. I was the last of the original staff (mainly because my son needed me close to home and I had no interest in going anywhere).
Full circle? Symmetry?
How do I feel about this... panicked? No. Maybe a little melancholy about the passage of time. On the other hand, maybe this is an opportunity to explore new options. (My son is going to 8th grade. He doesn't need me around anymore.)
Anybody need help out there?
