Music Meme
Apr. 30th, 2020 12:32 amTaking the baton from beergoodfoamy, this is my contribution to the music meme circulating around our little group:
Name a music group starting with the letter "L"!
Remember... no songs, no individual artists, no duos--it has to be a group.
And don't give me no Led Zeppelin. Work a little; wow me!
After each entry, I'll give out a letter to repost.

Date: 2020-04-30 06:31 am (UTC)I know you'll know 'em, but for the rest of the crew:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lindisfarne_(band)
I have Fog On The Tyne, Nicely Out of Tune, and Dingly Dell on LP.
BTW, are these picks to be just off the top of the cerebellum, or are peeps allowed to go to their music collection / online and look it up?
I was about to peruse the "L"s in my library and then the above came to me.
*******
ETA-- Whoops! Never mind on the latter, just scrolled down a bit and saw shadowkat's info on the restrictions.

Date: 2020-04-30 02:51 pm (UTC)I love British folk rock, but I have to admit, I haven't gone nearly as deep with Lindisfarne as I have with Pentangle, Steeleye Span or Fairport Convention and its offshoots. I'll have to correct that.
Great choice.

Date: 2020-05-01 05:07 am (UTC)Uhhm, not? After locating several ELP discs, the next thing after was the start of a large cluster of John Fahey albums. Really? No other 'E's?
The only other thing some additional searching turned up is debatable as to its admissibility-- The Electric Eclectics of Dick Hyman.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Hyman
Can one call this a band, if Hyman works with a synthesizer programmer to make his tunes happen?
Here's the disc, which happens to be one of the oldest in my collection-- I would have been in high school:

Heh... cutting edge electronic music in its day! And... radio stations of the day-- especially AM stations-- were sometimes reluctant to play it because it was "too long" with it's over seven minute run time!
Oooo! Wait! Just this very moment, as I type this! Possibly a mite of a cheat also, but, hey:
Enoch Light and the Light Brigade
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enoch_Light
Excerpt:
Light is credited with being one of the first musicians to go to extreme lengths to create high-quality recordings that took full advantage of the technical capabilities of home audio equipment of the late 1950s and early 1960s, particularly stereo effects that bounced the sounds between the right and left channels (often described as "Ping-pong recording"), which had huge influence on the whole concept of multi-track recording that would become commonplace in the ensuing years.
Oh, man... how one person's innovation can drive other persons-- audiophiles in this case-- bonkers. "Ping-Pong Stereo"-- Eccccchhhh!!! Not what stereo is supposed to be about, no sirree. But it took decades before that was widely understood by many recording artists outside of the classical field.
