Poor Tom Brady.

("But cjl, you HATE Tom Brady! You hate the way he whines when he gets hit...not to mention his good looks, his supermodel wife, and the way he and Belichick take great pleasure stomping on the Jets.")

Well... Yeah. But Brady's going to take a lot of heat for tonight's loss, and I don't think he deserves it. He never should have been asked to catch a pass with a bad hand, and his o-line collapsed on him on the strip sack. Brady had a GREAT game. He was hitting Hogan, Amendola and Gronk all over the field. Give him another two minutes on the clock and I still think he would have pulled it out...

Unfortunately for the Pats, Nick Foles and the Eagle o-line had a better game. They established a run early to keep the NE defense honest, and when the Pats blitzed, Foles either rolled out to buy time or threw right over the blitzing linebackers. Incredibly, Belichick had no answer for the Eagles' offensive scheme. (Any reason why Malcolm Butler was benched for the entire game?) The Pats did a little better against the run in the second half, but they didn't slow down Foles at all. Well-deserved MVP.

(Did the Eagles get a generous call on that touchdown at the back of the end zone? Yep. But I'm sure the Patriots' opponents over the years could list many times when the Patriots received some generous calls of their own.)

So... If you're going to blame anybody for the loss, blame Mr. Hoodie for not making adjustments. Don't blame Tom. Poor Tom.

(Hee hee hee....)

For the most part agreed. If you throw for 500+ yards with no interceptions, you aren't the main reason for the loss. And I don't really blame Brady for dropping a pass. He's an old QB with a bad hand. It's a low probability call. The Eagles ran the same play, but with a far more mobile QB running the route... and a pass thrown by a guy who played QB at Florida.

No. That loss is on the Pats Defense. They got one interception on a lucky scenario where Alshon Jeffrey bobbled a pass back into the field (on what otherwise would have been an Eagles TD drive). And really, the only big mistake the Eagles made was just settling for the late FG instead of trying to score a TD that would have ended the game for real. The Pats actually had a shot at tying, especially if they hadn't run the silly trick play return.

Oh, and it was nice to see Geno Smith's backup get some shine on Superbowl Sunday.
